The reality of mechanical engineers?

Hey there, I am not a mechanical student but yes, my many friends belong to the mechanical field. I strictly need to assure you, specially RGPV mechanical students that, you might be noticed that In college many professors says of going for a tech company like TCS, Wipro, etc. If you like that company and you think that you had found your passion for coding and any other field than its totally fine but if not. You always need to compromise. You want to work as a mechanical engineer, but if you know that at the end of the day you need to do coding and all, no work is there for mechanical than sir you have taken a mistake.

There are several seminars that took place in college, and when someone looks mechanical asks a question "What is a future in mechanical", they always say ''You must need coding to get into a tech company and you are done.  ''

Now, this is wrong!!

Keep in mind if you go for a mechanical engineer, you must become a successful mechanical engineer. Until you do not get a passion for something else. As an exception. Don't ever compromise, be strict with your career. If you want you can compromise by not taking that stream, that will be more beneficial.

Believe me, the successful mechanical engineers are hardcore with there dream.
Being a computer science student, I must say that if they want they can prepare any of the computer languages with proper aptitude, within 20 days, not even 1 day more than that number.

The reality is computer science is very easy in front of mechanical, they have the aptitude, reasoning type of brain.

But computer science has more placements than mechanical, that's why most of the mechanical engineers switch towards tech jobs.

If you are a mechanical engineer then you must have a fixed and a full proof plan for achieving a mechanical job and higher studies plan if you want to do so.

According to me if you are not in a reputed college then, you must plan for higher studies because to achieve kingsize, you need to proceed other than the crowd.  That's obvious!!

What you need to do during college?

  • Actually, mechanical engineers should have the experience, so join an internship as more as you can. This is a must!!

  • During your bachelor's degree, I must recommend learning a python computer language, because it is the main requirement in machine learning.

  • Hold internship during your bachelor's degree, In any company. Keep in mind that your main motive should be a professional experience, not a certificate.

What are mechanical engineers?

Mechanical engineering deals with the design, development, installation, operation, and maintenance of anything that has moving parts. Because of this, you will find relevant opportunities in a range of sectors, including:
  • aerospace
  • automotive
  • construction
  • energy
  • manufacturing
  • medicine
  • railway
  • sport.

Skills For Your CV

A mechanical engineering degree is a combination of maths, science, technology, business, and management. Courses are designed to ensure graduates are:
  • able to solve problems using both logic and creative and innovative approaches
  • numerate and highly computer literate, with excellent analytical skills
  • able to plan and prioritize, work to deadlines and under pressure
  • cost/value-conscious and aware of the necessary social, cultural, environmental, health and safety, and wider professional responsibilities
  • capable of careful attention to detail, exercising good judgment and accepting responsibility
  • able to communicate with others and work in multidisciplinary teams

Myths

There are several myths, you need to know before going further.

“Mechanical Engineering is not suited for girls”

  • It requires strength for heavy-duty jobs and will to bear the physical pain
  • It requires endurance and patience in harsh environments
  • They can’t grow in their career if they take up mechanical engineering.

My view: Girls have great strength in them, If they can bear labor pain during pregnancy, a mechanical job stands nowhere in front of their will.
My view: Bro, your mother has been cooking food for you for last 20+ years after finishing her professional duties. How many times she complained about that?
Last but not least, which I heard
My View: Did you hear about Lila Feroz Poonawala? She is the 2nd Mechanical Engineer from India. She was the first Woman CEO of Alfa Laval and also the first Woman CEO of the country. She is a Padma Shri awardee.
So never say mechanical girls will not have a good career.
Padma Shri Ms. Lila Poonawala (Mechanical Engineer)

College for mechanical students for Master degree-
There are several colleges for mechanical engineers for pursuing a master's degree and various scholarships option too.
Make sure that if you want to become a successful and wealthy mechanical engineer then it's too tough in India.
Some Abroad colleges-

Nerd or Geek ??

Are you that kind of person who always wants to sit at home, keep the phone on silent or flight mode, Don't need a company of anybody, just want access to the internet and surf the web. Then there will be 2 reasons either you are enrolled in some major project or you have an anxiety of facing your friends or any outer people, the reason is the failure, it may be marks, percentage, position, etc.
And people think that you are studying, hence that is not every time true.

Then congratulations these are the characteristics of a nerd person or geek person, let's find out what you are -

 Some more nerd traits-

1) Extreme interest or fascination with academics.

2) Introvert

3) Socially Inept

4) Diverse and impractical skills due to broad interests in games, movies, science, computer, etc.

5) A PC

6) Interest might include Battlestar Galactica (BSG), LARPing, Second Life, physics, Chess, Fantasy, Computer programming.

Some more geek traits-

1) Someone with specific interest/lifestyle that they have become the expert on.

2) Knowledge can range from mundane to 'living encyclopedia ' status.

3) It can be pretentious and long-winded.

4) were iconic t-shirts.

5) interest might include gaming, film. Collecting gadgets/tech, coding hacking. techno music, etc.

6) A fan of gadgets

Let's discuss briefly on this topic-

Geeks and nerd may share similar outward traits --or not-- but when you compare their approaches to life, the difference becomes apparent.

Nerd love to use jargon or unfamiliar terminology in their dialogue, whereas geeks will use obscure references rarely.

for example-

NERD - That's an overused Foley. The SD must be lazy.
GEEK -  Oh! I love how Percy Jackson uses the Wilhelm Scream in every movie!

Geeks often take interest in the microcosmic details of life, such as noticing that your present situation is much like one from a news article or a novel. Nerds will be seemingly uninterested in the details of daily life, being more focused on the macroscopic, such as scientific possibilities and the future of humankind.

Compare Interest-

  • A geek may enjoy board games, film (and may follow directors, composers, or key grips obsessively), tech gadgets, hacking, and techno music.
  • A nerd enjoys solitary pursuits like programming and Second Life, or games like chess and go.

Discover where they work-

While nerds and geeks are both intelligent and educated, there are some career paths that appeal only to one or the other:
  • In addition to populating IT departments the world over, you can find geeks in artistic jobs like web design, graphic design, or game designs. You may find geeks behind the bar, in your local record store, or pulling espressos at the coffee shop.
  • Look for nerds to be working as a rocket scientist, or programming the software that the IT department has to manage. They may be an engineer, or an inventor, or even a brilliant recluse who rarely sees the light of day. You might also find them behind the counter at the last remaining video store.
  • Nerds tend to be interested in the field of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. People in this field tend to be intelligent and will require years of a college education.

Factors/stats-

17% of Americans identified as geeks

65% of video game designers identified as geeks

50% of tech engineers identified as geeks

37% of bloggers identified as geeks

66% of millennials think 'geeks' is a compliment

45% of people believe geeks are early adopters

31% of the people believe geeks having higher chances of being successful

In short-

  • geek – An enthusiast of a particular topic or field. Geeks are “collection” oriented, gathering facts and mementos related to their subject of interest. They are obsessed with the newest, coolest, trendiest things that their subject has to offer.
  • nerd – A studious intellectual, although again of a particular topic or field. Nerds are “achievement” oriented, and focus their efforts on acquiring knowledge and skill over trivia and memorabilia.

 My views-

According to me,

Collections are geeky: All derivatives of the word “collect” are orange. As are “boxset” and which imply a taste for completeness and authenticity.

Academic fields are nerdy: math, history, physics, biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, etc. Other academic words and institutions (“Harvard”, “oxford”) are also blue.

The science & technology words differ: General terms (“computers,” “big data”) are on the diagonal — similarly geeky and nerdy. As you splay up toward geekier, though, you see products, startups, brands, and more cultish technologies (“apple”, “Linux”). As you splay down toward nerdier you see more methodologies (“calculus”).

Hobbies: compare the more geeky pastimes (“toys,” “manga”) with the more nerdy ones (“chess,” “sudoku”).

Brains: the word “intelligence” may be geeky, but “education,” “intellectual,” and “smartypants” are nerdy.

Reading: “books” are nerdy, but “ebooks” and “iBooks” are geeky.

Pop culture vs. high culture: “shiny” and “trendy” is super-geeky, but (curiously) “cellist” is the nerdiest

NASA Hacked !!

Yes, you had read right, NASA got hacked. The news is confirmed by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this week that Jet propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has been hacked.

Many of you didn't know about it.

JPL termed as Jet Propulsion Laboratory, founded in the 1930s, this lab is owned by NASA and managed by the nearby California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for NASA. The laboratory's primary function is the construction and operation of planetary robotic spacecraft, though it also conducts Earth-orbit and astronomy missions. It is also responsible for operating NASA's Deep Space Network. Means the spacecraft revolve around the lower orbit, outside orbit or having research on Mangal Grah, needs communication from the earth and this communication is provided by JPL and also all the entire work is operated from this lab only.

NASA had also been hacked before by Gary McKinnon , who is a Scottish systems administrator and hacker who was accused in 2002 of perpetrating the "biggest military computer hack of all time,"'although McKinnon himself states that he was merely looking for evidence of free energy suppression and a cover-up of UFO activity and other technologies potentially useful to the public. On 16 October 2012, after a series of legal proceedings in Britain, Home Secretary Theresa May withdrew her extradition order to the United States.
Hacking can be possible by the heavy and hight specced system, but again NASA got stuck and hacked by the smallest computer operating system Raspberry Pi, it is a 35$ computer, made for the people who want to compute and code but can not afford a heavy configuration system. It also runs with the help of the power bank. Specs for this device is very nominal, it has- (raspberry pi 3)

SoC: Broadcom BCM2837
CPU: 4× ARM Cortex-A53, 1.2GHz
GPU: Broadcom VideoCore IV
RAM: 1GB LPDDR2 (900 MHz)
Networking: 10/100 Ethernet, 2.4GHz 802.11n wireless
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.1 Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy
Storage: MicroSD
GPIO: 40-pin header, populated ports
: HDMI, 3.5mm analog audio-video jack, 4× USB 2.0, Ethernet, Camera Serial Interface (CSI), Display Serial Interface (DSI)

Its size is 65mm x 30mm, like any of the credit or debit card.
It is also used for making drones, robot cars, and the favorite choice of hackers because of its price range.

In JPL lab, the hacker connects this computer to JPL servers and moved  Laterally further into NASA network. Well, the hackers apparently got as far as the Deep Space Network (DSN) array of ratio telescope and numerous other JPL system and steal secret files. They also steal 23 files whose total size is 500 MB related to marks mission of which contained International Traffic in Arms Regulations information related to the Mars Science Laboratory mission," the NASA OIG said. The OIG report said the hackers used "a compromised external user system" to access. When they come to know that Hackers also breached NASA satellite dish network then they get active and cybersecurity cuts down the connection and repair.

Classified as an advanced persistent threat, the attack went undetected for nearly a year," the NASA OIG said. "The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

This is clear that NASA the world's most advanced organization, get hacked by the smallest computer, hence there system have many flows and huge bugs.

It’s unknown who’s behind the breach or what their motivation might be, but it comes at a time when the U.S. government is on high alert regarding government-sponsored cyber-espionage. Authorities reportedly believe the recent hack of Marriott hotels’ booking system, which exposed the information of 500 million guests, was an information-gathering mission perpetrated by the Chinese government. The operation is believed to be connected to a larger campaign that breached the records of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in 2014. Chinese intelligence operatives are said to find the information useful for rooting out spies, tracking government officials’ movements, and identifying future targets.

LEAF-TECH Update-

How to become a Long term CEO of a Tech company ?

However , here long term CEO termed as being on the top list CEOs in the world of Technology.

Hence if you have a notion of being in the top of game on the place of others, then you should fulfill following conditions -

1. Look for skill-building opportunities.

If you know for sure that you want to lead a company someday, then start gaining the skills you'll need as soon as possible—even as early as high school. Aim to expand your decision-making, organizational, communication, and leadership abilities any way you can. Possibilities include:
  • Getting involved in student government
  • Joining a debate team
  • Becoming part of a young entrepreneurs club
  • Leading a sports team
  • Volunteering for a charity or nonprofit agency
The idea is to pursue any activity that will expose you to the realities of running a business or organizing and managing people.

2. Earn Bachelor Degree.

If you want to become a CEO of any company , this is obvious that , on the first day they will not make your desire fulfill , they check even a smaller part on which you can be judged . Hence to be a boss of a company , first you need a eligibility to enter in the company and for that you need the bachelor degree of a particular field . But in the cases of product based companies like google , facebook, Apple, microsoft . They do not consider bachelor degree , hence you are eligible if you are passed in the college. They will promote you on the basis of experience. Here they conduct their own eligibility contest for that you should have a proper skills. But then also they sometimes prefer degree.

3. Master Degree.

This degree is important because you need to run the company and for that your experience in the field is mandatory. Hence this degree will weight your resume to make you promote for bigger.
Here as the boss you should focus on the practical knowledge and for that you need to do the Master Business Administration(MBA). Here you will step up from others. Because many people skips this role.

4. Marketing knowledge.

If you want  to be top of you game you need to know , from where you need to make money and invest . This is the field where many people hire. As a boss you can not depend on others and fully trust. Because if by mistake problem occurs , CEO will be responsible not the marketing expert. But if you have a good times with them and you know they will not let you down , you may hire. More specifically you should know about marketing hence you should not be fooled.

All you must know Steve Jobs , he hires John Scully as a marketing officer and because steve jobs trust fully on him . He works by its own and does not fulfill Steve jobs working. Steve jobs then loses the sand from his hand hence get fired out due to less votes on board member voting.

5. Innovation.

If you always want to make your company skies the limit , you should be innovative, now you must thinks that how , Firstly you need to understand that innovative mind set does not mean that you should be genius. You only needs to be a knowledgeable and for that you must read books , listen audio books or podcasts of the successful businessman . The more you take knowledge , more you will be innovative. You should always have a goal in mind that , you will deliver the services that nobody else considered possible.

You may take an example of Apple industry , they have made there own ecosystem in technology , such as Iphone,Ipad, Macs etc.
There all products delivers the premium version of computing .

6. Interacting with Your Employees.

This is the main role of every CEO of any company , the boss should know and guide there employs for the better future of the company. This role is the most important , you should be calm and listen to your employs and replay appropriately to stay connected to the company.  As CEO, you don’t get to sit in your cushy office and let your subordinates deal with everything but the most important decisions. Rather, an effective CEO is always in the thick of things: visiting every department, assisting with any task they are qualified to assist with, speaking to employees, and listening to their feedback . You should be dedicated towards your employ and shows them that they are important for this company. Show trust and make them follow you. This is not the instant process , you need to work with them for better result of the company.

7. Failure is OK.

Now, you are the boss so every failure is yours , you should accept it and work on it to change into success. CEOs are the type of people who try, fail, adjust, and try again. People who aren’t cut out to be CEOs use a fear of failure as an excuse not to try. Being a CEO is a constant challenge, with high risks and high rewards. If you don’t thrive with your “feet to the fire,” consider other options. Each and every type of failure can occur overnight , your shares can be low overnight . You need to admit and struggle with the same. If you are the kind of a person who can not tolerate the failure , this field is not for you.

8.Meditation.

Now , here some people are thinking what is the use of meditation in the life of  a CEO . Hence is use is direct , there is a huge responsibility of a CEO to run his company , some times they do not get proper amount of sleep , to resist the problems because of sleep, meditation is the only capsule to be taken this situation.
The first thing to clarify: What we’re doing here is aiming for mindfulness, not some process that magically wipes your mind clear of the countless and endless thoughts that erupt and ping constantly in our brains. We’re just practicing bringing our attention to our breath, and then back to the breath when we notice our attention has wandered.

The secret weapon of all CEOs.

9. Early Birds.

You may have listened , early bird catch the worm, its true. Most of the successful CEOs are early risers , they go to bed and wakes up quit early. you may take this case as an exception because every person has its own routine and may its not perfect routine but perfect with there working.
Some people can work overnight and some can overday. I have included this point because the habit which is common on most of top list CEOs is are they are early to bed and early to rise.

Early rising is the secret for a happy life. We all wish to live long but we cannot. Why? We go against Nature. Nature likes us to work during day and to rest at night. But we do not obey this law of Nature. We do not go to bed early. We read or write late into night. Some of us keep playing, dancing and drinking whole night. So, we do not rise early. What is the result?  Our health breaks down and we fall ill. Nature takes revenge. We have to suffer for our disobedience.

But birds and animals are healthy. They do not need a doctor every day. Why So? They sleep early and rise early. Early rising is the secret of health. But if you like to rise early, you must go to bed early.

Early rising gives you health. But early rising alone is not enough. You must leave your bed and walk a little.

10. Exercise Daily.

Exercise helps your body stay healthy. Depending on what kind of exercise you do, your body will benefit in different ways. Weight lifting helps your entire body build muscular strength with the right routine while running gives your heart a work out. Swimming is good both for building muscle and maintaining a healthy heart. Even taking a daily walk is good exercise! No exercise at all can lead to increased risk of disease. Daily exercise helps you maintain a specific weight as long as you do not overeat. It keeps our body more efficient and persistent . Sometimes people fails because there body not support them to work late or early. The body which does not exercise wants only sleep and full day become a blur. This is the secret weapon of most successful CEOs

Starting from beginning to CEO , considering lots of hard-work , dedication , perseverance , persistence etc . You will be successful .

A great CEO is a combination of an ideas person (like an entrepreneur), willing to take risks and think big; and a hands-on person, eagle-eyed in matters of money and human resources, always willing to dig into the details until everything is perfect.
CEO's must be effective in communication, possess leadership and management skills and have the ability to work under pressure and handle the aforementioned stress of the job.
